Ok, so I've been passed by test only 3 months and covered 1500 miles so far on my R6.

I've come on no end on my bike since I passed. I ride aggresively and get the bike over well. I put new Michelin Pures on about 500 miles ago and I'm right on the edge of them. I know it's no real measure of rider assesment, but does show I love speed in the corners and must be getting over well. Smile

Should I opt for the beginner group or the intermediate group?

I don't want to be hitting traffic every corner and spoiling them, but at the same time, I don't want to feel intimidated and concerned I'm not going a good pace.

Your thoughts please.

Book into the beginner group. If the officials think you should be up with the intermediates they will bump you up for the next session.

I did wonder if riders could be moved up or down either by their own admission or by the staff.

I don't mind going in at the deep end to a degree. When I was riding motorcross, I went to Armthrope at Doncaster and they have enormous table tops with kids clearing them. Riders overtaking you in the air!

I s*** myself to start with, but was soon very comfortable, although after perhaps 4 visits, I never did completely clear a table top, but got bloody high. I did only stick with the sport for a few months though.

Oh yes chum. They will be quick to move you on safety grounds. They wont want you flying up the inside of someone wobbling his way round a corner. Or a beginner in with the inters who is going to brake earlier than the fella behind him expects.

A session with the beginners will give you the chance to learn the track too at a more sedate pace.

I was just looking at the schedule, and it's 20 mins for each group, expert, inter and novice. Do you get a full 20 mins, are riders on and off at the same time? You must lose a few mins.

At least 2 sighting laps are done in session 1 for all groups and 1 sighting lap in all sessions for the green group subject to confirmation in the briefing What does this mean?

Yep. Full 20 mins. Once per hour as it were. 3 groups, 3 time slots so as not to have expert practicing racers on with novice Joe Bloggs on his Bandit 4.

Sighting lap, think pace car only pace bike more than likely. Green group will be your novice.

Simples!

OK, so do I just turn up. It's 90 miles from me, is it best to ride there or transport the bike?

Do I need to take anything other than my riding gear?

Is fuel available at the track?

Is it best to remove the mirrors and if so , why?

Personally, I'd leave the mirrors on so you can see whats behind you. Only real point in taking them off is so they dont get broken if you drop it and lets face it, mirrors will be the least of your worries.

Bring your licence, insurance cert (check your insurance covers trackdays too)and MOT cert (if applicable). Probably need a 1 piece suit as most tracks wont let you on with a 2 piece. Other than that bring your bike and fill her up before you go in.

You can ride up. Just bear in mind that your tyres wont be so special on the way home if you already have a good few miles on them and if you chuck her in the kitty litter 90miles is a long limp home.

Best advice I can give is take it easy and enjoy yourself. You are not out to prove anything and remember it is not a race. If you are deemed to be too agressive you WILL be black flagged. Rolling Eyes

Well my guess was so you'd have 100% forward thinking, but as I don't know everything in the world, I thought I'd ask.

Further to above. Bring plenty of fluids and decent food. Coke and van burgers will slow you down. Its a power to weight ratio thing. Very Happy

Cool thanks Tifo for the advice.

I've read the info for Cadwell and As a minimum, all riders must wear a 2 piece 390 degrees zipped together set of motor cycling leathers. That must be a typo, surley its 360! I have an Alpinestars Octane 2 piece suit, matching boots and gloves. So that should be OK.

I'm only TPTF on the road, so if I trash the bike or myslef on a track I guess I have to accept that.

Yeah good advice on food, I dont like feeling like a stuffed pig on my bike when I ride.

I think I will transport the bike. Like you say, if the worst does happen, I'd need to organise transport anyway.

I had seen some images of tyres after trackdays, I hope my Pure's don't end up like that! I guess it depends how hard you are.

It must feel great riding around only lovely smooth tarmac. Very Happy

I have Pures though have not had them on track. Nice and sticky. They'll snot up good!! Very Happy That's nothing to worry about though. Just don't leave yourself illegal or dangerous. Lovely grippy tires.

Smooth tarmac is bliss, although not all tracks are as smooth as you'd think. A mate of mine did testing for Michelin at Portamao. Says it was the smoothest trach he has ever been on. Very fine grade tarmac. You should have seen his kneesliders. Yould swear he'd been at them for hours with wet n dry paper. I hate him! Smile

Your going to have the time of your life but I also think your going to get ya eyes open, bud.
Take it easy of your bike will be in one of the nice blue dumpsters.....
Cadwell is very technical have you thought about Mallory park instead?
